It is said that the Lestani family has always been a farming family.
It was back in 1891 when one of our ancestors came to Cuccana as a settler. Since that day, four generations have followed, cultivating the red soil of Cuccana. TERRE ROSSE was born in this tradition and became a passion when Adamo took over the family kiwi farm from his father, Franco, and added the first two hectares of a vineyard.
A dream comes true. Our story begins … It is 1997.
For over twenty years TERRE ROSSE has specialized in the production of red and white wines rich in the aromas and fragrances of the DOC Friuli wine region. A winery whose name already embodies the strong link with this red Cuccana soil, so rich in iron and so generous in its fruits.
Commitment, dedication and attention to detail combine for a single purpose: quality. Our winery’s philosophy is based on two decisive elements:
- QUALITY and CONSISTENCY
Our quality and consistenc is evident, from the tidy rows of the vineyard to the meticulous operations in the wine cellar.
Our sustainable wines began with the two plantings of Fleurtai and Palava: resistant vines selected to reduce the number of pesticide and fungicide treatments to a minimum.
We are in Cuccana in the Municipality of Bicinicco, 20 km south of Udine,
Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in northeastern Italy.
Where neat rows of vines blend into the horizon.
Where the earth is so red because it is rich in iron and so generous.
Where we shake hands with nature and the plain becomes a garden.
Eight hectares planted with the Guyot, Spurred Cordon and Double Guyot systems according to varietal requirements, which favor maximum quality.
Ideal orientation to allow the leaves to capture as much light as possible.
Distance between rows of 2.5 meters and between plants of 80 centimeters to create close planting distances (about 5000 vines per hectare) to ensure selection of the clusters.
Turf throughout the vineyard to maintain an ideal microclimate, contain excess water and improve soil fertility and aeration.
Weed control, through mechanical tillage without the use of herbicides.
Water control by suspended dripline.
Manual pruning, stripping, manual thinning and mechanical harvesting to promote bunch integrity.
These are some examples of sustainable agriculture in compliance with the protocols of the VOLUNTARY INTEGRATED FARMING and the REGIONAL AGRO ENVIRONMENTAL MEASURES ON WEEDING.
The grapes produced will be healthy, of excellent quality and will certainly give a must rich in sugars, aromas and fragrances which, enhanced by the right yeasts, we will then find in our wines.
Our
corporate winery's philosophy
Our thinking at TERRE ROSSE is based on two pillars: Quality and Sustainability.
The first is guaranteed by the agronomic and technology applied with abundance and zeal in the vineyard as well as in the cellar; the second is a continuous challenge in search of that balance in the management of resources, no waste and always introducing new ideas and methods!
Our sustainable wines began with the two plantings of Fleurtai and Palava: resistant vines selected to reduce the number of pesticide and fungicide treatments to a minimum.
A path towards the protection of our health and the planet.
Adamo says: “We know that sometimes investments in this direction pay off more morally than economically, but I am convinced that education and respect must start first and foremost with us farmers who are guardians of the land. We are the pioneers. And just as my father was in his time with the kiwis, so am I with these resistant vines that are not famous, but certainly respectful. I believe in low-impact agriculture and I will make sure that more and more people embrace this philosophy. “
